Funding and Supporting Organizations

Funding to establish and develop the CouncilNet was provided by a series of grants from the Ford Foundation. This support has helped to strengthen both the capacity of the Council and its members to advance the field of less commonly taught languages in the United States. With the end of generous Ford Foundation grant in March 2003, the Council is beginning to investigate other means of financial support, through both government agencies and private foundations.

The Council has also received significant support from the National Foreign Language Center (NFLC). As of 2004, the University of Wisconsin - Madison became the new headquarters for the Council and provides the Council Secretariat with generous support from Gilles Bousquet, the Dean of International Studies and the UW-International Institute.. The Council's new Executive Director is Antonia Folarin Schleicher. You can reach her at ayschlei@wisc.edu.
